One evening a little black kitten ventured into our kitchen and helped herself to someone else's dinner. We let her eat and then my husband scooped her up and went knocking on doors to find out who she belonged to. There were no takers. A couple of neighbours said she had been around for a few days and they had been feeding her scraps but no one knew about a lost kitten.
